Mites and Home Remedies for Canaries

Scatt of course . But for the scaly feet I washed their feet twice daily in warm soapy water with a few drops of original Listerine, pat them dry and rub very thin layer of Vaseline on feet and legs carefully not getting it on feathers.

Vaseline smothers the little devils and gives the canary such relief.

I also add a few drops to their bath water weekly.

I also use food grade diatomaceous earth in the nests and Dyna-mite spray. It's nontoxic and canaries can even eat it but it kills mites and lice.

Fresh oregano to eat makes them unappealing to all blood suckers.

Lavender and silver dollar eucalyptus sprigs outside the cage is a natural deterrent.

2 cups water, 4 drops lavender, lemon grass, peppermint, Rosemary & sage essential oils. Combine in spray bottle shake well and spray area but not birds will keep flies and mosquitos away.

These really work and a touch of garlic sprinkled on their food makes them taste and smell bad to bugs. This I do for my dogs and cats also...works with fleas and ticks.

I have notebook of home stuff passed down from my gram for mice, ants, bed bugs etc. all natural.

Garlic for Mites on Canaries
by: Anonymous

Some breeders definitely give their birds garlic in food and water.

Garlic flakes mixed with some soft food or egg is a good method.

Does it actually work? I don't know. I've never actually tried.

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

Best, Darren
