Canary Stopped Singing - Why?

by Elaine

I have a German Roller canary and he started moulting last March, and of course, stopped singing and to this date he still doesn't sing even though he's finished moulting . Any suggestions?
Thanks
Elaine

Canary stops singing NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi, My canary have done its molting last february but he still used to sing but since April he began to reduce singing and by mid of april he completely stopped singing. Is this normal? I lives in dubai by the way and summer starts from April here.
Thanks,
Suhail

Thanks Darren. I've never had this happen before and I've had a lot of canaries through the years.

Off-Season EARLY Molt?
by: Darren

Hi Elaine,

Your canary starting the molt in March tells me he's off track.

Under the right conditions, your canary should start the molt around the beginning of summer...so your bird is a few months early.

He's probably not getting the correct number of daylight hours and he's confused about the season.

He may be in a long extended molt and that's why he's not singing.

Make sure you're covering his cage at sundown and UNcovering at sunrise, year around.

This should get him back on track. Also see...

Hope that helps,
